Though there are a few weeks left before we ring in the new year, my choice for album of 2010 has long been cemented by those west coast natives, who brought us “Gorilla Manor.” The Local Natives released a monster record this year, that contained everything needed for endless listens and hours of enjoyment. They could also easily take “Performance of the Year,” with their live set at Lincoln Hall this past fall. The album runs the gamut of tribal rhythms and jam band ditties, that end in poppy, sing-along anthems. “Gorilla Manor” is a masterpiece chalk full of emotions, filtered through a group of guys that have an electric chemistry. “Sun Hands” is that jam bandy thing, that ends with tons of percussion and group chants. “Airplanes” is a Coldplay-esqe ballad, about the loss of a loved one, and “Cubism Dream,” is that anthemic ode to unrequited love. It’s all here in one brilliant package, that I’m still spinning 8 months later.
“Airplanes”
“Cubism Dream”
“Sun Hands”
