Cheap picture, cheap CD! $1 was the magic price for the double disc set of covers called “Renegades,” by Rage Against The Machine. I never picked this collection up in the past, as I really had no desire. I wasn’t sure how I felt about some of the songs that Rage covered and the jazzed up versions they did of said songs. I felt like because the band couldn’t get along and write new material, they forced themselves to do this record of covers, and that never sat well with me. But, after giving this a thorough listen, I definitely got my moneys worth, and am happy to have it! I dig the energy of the heavier tunes, and this CD is great for running and working out. The bonus disc contains live versions of “No Shelter,” and the main reason for my buying this CD, the raucous “People of The Sun.” “It’s coming back around again/this is for the people of the sun!” Although, I will say that the biggest surprise came with a live version of “How I Could Just Kill a Man,” featuring B-Real and Sen Dog. “I’m Housing” is really good sounding, and “Pistol Grip Pump” thumps too. I’ve been trying to gather all of RATM music for my CD collection again, as most of it got lost along the way somewhere. This set is a great addition.
RATM “People of The Sun.”
