“changes is the better part of me/boom, boom, I’m getting out of here...”
Change might be the best part of us, but it is also the hardest. I love change, if and when I can make it. Change challenges me, by creating a desire to be better, in my career and as a person. Learning a new job, writing better songs, and having more patience are just a few things I am trying to improve on, or change. Every morning when I wake up and head off to work, these are the things that consume my thoughts. I can’t speak for all of us, just myself. But we are all human, and it seems to be a common theme among humans, changing, and trying to grow. I will end this charade by saying that it takes a lot to change. We spend our whole lives trying to grow. After a long weekend in downstate Illinois, I came home to a pile of mail that included a promo of Wheat’s latest single, “Changes Is,” which is an incredibly happy tune! I had contacted Brendan Harney (drums/keys) last week, asking if I could get Wheat’s new single in the i-Tunes store, as it seems it was only available in the UK store. He told me that right now, it is only available with bonus tracks in the UK, but that I might be able to get one of these really cool promos. Here it was in the mail late last night, and there it was on my car stereo at 3:30am this morning. Grinning from ear to ear, I walked in to work with a kick in my step, and a new lease on life. Change is…possible. Yes, change is difficult to make, we like to be comfortable. Music can make you feel like anything is possible, I guess that’s why we love it so much.
changes is….
we tend to change our minds….
we tend to take wide turns….
and our steps are out of time….
we watch our bridges burn….
changes is the better part of me….
boom, boom, i’m getting out of here.….
we almost different that we was….
we almost better than because….
and we like and change come easy….
and change is as change it does….
NOTE: Wheat communicates with their fans, and that says a lot in this digital age. Brendan has been more than helpful and friendly with talking to me about their releases and life in general. This dictates what CD a fan will buy and what they will pass up on. You have to be good to your audience, after all, that’s one of the main reasons musicians do this. Bob Lefsetz talks a lot about tearing down the walls between fans and stars, and this is something Wheat is great at. They want their fans to be involved and they continue to build a dedicated fan base by doing so.
Here is that sweet promo!
