I tend to let minor things bother me for way too long! I was going to grab Butch Walker tickets for Schuba’s on Friday, but I had to run a ton of errands and ended up forgetting to do so before dinner that night! On the way to dinner a friend text me saying all three shows were sold out! This recked my whole night; I have to be honest. I couldn’t get it off my mind, and it put me in the worst mood. Also, my wife was pissed, because, as she says, “This was the only show she wanted to see,” and that I “get tickets to a lot of stupid shows,” yet I “couldn’t get these” for her? So, I felt bad to say the least. I’m not perfect, she knows this. But she asked me if she should buy them that morning, and stupidly, I said no because I wanted to buy them for her. I was essentially trying to do a nice thing, but it backfired; in my face! All for that, I couldn’t let it go! This mood stayed with me until that evening, as you can guess, I had the temporary blues! This all changed when the Features took the stage at the Bottom Lounge and gave their best performance yet. The sound was amazing, you could almost hear a pin drop! The vocals were spot on, and the instrumentation all fit together into tight grooves! They mostly played stuff from their newer record “Some Kind of Salvation,” like “The Temporary Blues,” and “Lions,” both which sounded electric! They also tore through older classics, like “The Way It’s Meant to Be,” and “Exorcising Demons” from “Exhibit A.” My favorite song of the night had to be “Thursday,” a single that was released on 7″ vinyl back in 2000. This tune has resurfaced again on their “Lake Fever Sessions,” and has found new life in their live show as of late. Thursday is a great day. It is day in which we all feel good and hopeful, as the work week is coming to a close, and we are preparing our weekend plans. This song is about that feeling, and live, it retained the whole vibe. “Thursday” achieved explosive heights, as it started quiet, and ended rawkus, almost like a Friday. I left that show so impressed with the Features this time around, as this was the best performance I had seem them give yet! My only wish is that they played until Friday morning! And that they played the song “Concrete,” as this has become my new favorite from “Salvation…”
