Is This It?

Is This It (U.S. Cover)

On Monday morning, after a great weekend of being off, I ask myself that question.  Is this all life offers?  Two days in the sun, er rain, then back to the grind.  After doing this for years you start to wonder, “Is this it?”  Is this all life boils down to;  a few hours of enjoyment barring weather and obligations.  Anyway, last Thursday, I grabbed a handful of discs from the Discus dollar bins (of course I will list them) and headed to the counter.  The guy at the register looked at me all pissed off and said “I can’t for the life of me understand how that ended up down below!”  That being the amazing, classic debut by The Strokes, Is This It,” and down below meaning, “The Cut Out Bins,” a.k.a the Kid’s second home.  I responded by telling him that “I couldn’t believe it was down there either, so I checked the back of the CD and the artwork and found that it was pretty flawless! ”  That infuriated him even more, so I changed the subject to the Stone Roses.  He wasn’t having it, so I left, feeling like I stole something.  But, when I got home and threw it on,  it played perfect; I couldn’t have been more proud!  Those are the finds I live for!  I’m not going to go through every song on this record, but if you haven’t heard Is This It”  by The Strokes, you need to get a copy NOW!  This is one of the Top 100 LP’s of all time, no joke.  “Last Night” broke them to the general public, but the rest of us were rocking the import 6 months before the US version dropped, and it couldn’t be spun enough.  “Someday” and “Hard To Explain” have to be my faves, though I love the whole thing, from start to finish.  Also, the US version comes with a different track “When It Started” which is also a bonus to have.
