I played Sugar’s “Copper Blue” all weekend and the two songs that stuck out the most were “Hoover Dam,” and my personal favorite off the record, “Changes!” “Changes” rocks, and was on repeat as I kept hitting the “back” button on the CD player to hear that song again! I love when Bob Mould sings that line “I want something that lasts forever,” it’s so addicting! Of course nothing does last forever, but sometimes that can be a good thing, especially for the Cut Out Kid. A couple of posts ago I blogged about getting 16 CDs for under $18, and yes, “Copper Blue” was one of them! As a matter of fact, I now have three Sugar Cds, and I scored them all for a buck! How about building the back catalog of a band like Sugar for that price anywhere else, I don’t think it can be done. Follow me, I’ll take you there. Anyways, 17 years later, who would’ve thought that this group of songs would’ve held up so well, but amazingly enough, they did! “Copper Blue” is a great listen, with just the right amount of songs. In one of Bob Lefsetz’s blogs he said something to the fact that if you don’t have ten great songs to put on an album, you should only put the nine good ones on then, as opposed to just adding filler. I couldn’t agree more, and this is one of those albums. All of the singles are here as well, “Helpless,” “If I Can’t Change Your Mind,” and “A Good Idea,” but I wanted to let you in on a couple of other greats from my dollar fix. I couldn’t find a good video for “Changes” as they’ve all been taken down except for a really bad version on YouTube, but hopefully these will suffice. Enjoy!
