“It’s great to be alive!” How many times have you heard someone say that on the radio when you wake up in the morning? If you listened to WXRT’s morning DJ Lin Bremer, you would have heard that phrase uttered countless times, or at least once a day! Let me tell you, it makes you feel good to hear these words, even if you aren’t really feeling “great to be alive” at that moment. The phrase is uplifting, and so is the man; World’s Greatest DJ, Lin Bremer. I have been listening to Lin for years as a kid and now as an adult. His demeanor is usually happy and upbeat, the kind of person you would like to listen to, even if the music he played was terrible. But that’s thing, he’s knowledgeable about the music he plays and it’s good music! He has also created cool segments for his show, like ‘Lin’s Bin,” that obviously come from his love of music and passion for radio.

Lin Bremer is one of the main reasons why I got into this dying industry called Radio in the first place. Well, him and this killer DJ that use to host my favorite radio show of all time, Rock Over London. The DJ’s name (Dave ???) escapes me right now, but I use to wait up every Saturday night till 11pm, to listen to this one hour program that aired on WXRT and brought great Brit Pop into our bedrooms from across the pond. These two men have given me the idea, for some stupid reason, that I should be a DJ as well. Either way, Lin Bremer was at the Taste of Randolph to intro each band last weekend and it reminded me of what a great guy he was. He’s a real person, and he sounds that way. This is the reason why so many of us in Chicago can relate to him and want to wake up to his voice in the morning; that is if we can’t wake up to the voice of Reese Witherspoon (kidding honey;). Anyways, this is a shout out to my favorite DJ! It is great to be alive Lin, yes it is!
