Who Is Sombr? The Story Behind Shane Michael Boose and His Meteoric Rise
Every once in a while, an artist breaks through with a sound so self-assured and emotionally tuned-in that it stops you in your tracks. That’s what happened when Undressed by Sombr hit streaming platforms—an aching, atmospheric single that feels like the work of a seasoned songwriter. But Sombr is just getting started.
So… who is he?
Meet Shane Michael Boose
Sombr is the professional name of Shane Michael Boose, a singer, songwriter, and producer born July 5, 2005, in New York City. He grew up on the Lower East Side, the son of Bennah Serfaty and Andy Boose, both of whom have worked for amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. Creativity—and purpose—runs in the family.
Boose attended the prestigious LaGuardia High School as a vocal major, a known breeding ground for future stars. But in a move that would define his commitment to a different path, he dropped out during his junior year following the release of his 2022 single Caroline. That song became a small but powerful ripple in the indie-pop underground, hinting at the artistry to come.
He’s now based in Los Angeles, where he’s quietly building something big.

A DIY Spirit with Major Label Muscle
Sombr released his debut single Nothing Left to Say in 2021 and followed it up with his first EP, In Another Life, in 2023. That project arrived through a partnership with Warner Records and his own imprint, SMB, showing a rare balance of independence and industry support. For a 20-year-old artist, that’s no small feat.
Despite this, Sombr has managed to keep a low profile. No overexposure. No attention-seeking gimmicks. Just music—carefully crafted, deeply felt, and increasingly addictive.
Undressed: A Breakthrough Moment
Now in 2025, the release of Undressed has elevated his name even further. The track is haunting and disarmingly intimate, showing both lyrical maturity and sonic restraint. It’s the kind of song that feels like it’s been sitting on your shelf for years, even if it only came out in March.

What makes it even more impressive is that Boose appears to be at the center of the creative process—writing, producing, and performing with clarity of vision. The music doesn’t feel like the product of a team—it feels like the inner monologue of a young artist who’s lived through more than his years might suggest.
Is a Full-Length Album Coming?
While no official album has been announced, Undressed feels like a lead single. With an EP under his belt, a growing fanbase, and label infrastructure in place, it’s likely we’re on the verge of a more complete artistic statement. If his previous work is the blueprint, the debut LP could be a generational one.
Is He Touring?

Sombr is the kind of artist who could thrive both in small clubs and late-night festival sets. Go online and check out some of the pictures and performances. He seems like a natural entertainer.

Why Sombr Is Different
In a music landscape cluttered with fast fame and fleeting trends, Shane Michael Boose—aka Sombr—stands out for his subtlety. He doesn’t yell to be heard. His songs whisper, and somehow they cut deeper.
At only 20, he’s already proved he can write with the weight of someone twice his age. And if Undressed is any sign of what’s coming, Sombr won’t be a mystery much longer.
