“It’s all about me!?” Just kidding—this blog is all about the music.
Here you’ll find opinions on live shows, album reviews, and especially my music hauls. I’m talking about the gems I pick up while digging through the cheap bins—yes, people still do that. 🙂
💿 How It Started
The idea for this blog came to me after I moved down to the city. Places like Reckless Records, Discus, and other local shops had these magical $1 boxes—aka “Cut Out” bins. I’d drop ten bucks and walk out with ten great CDs.
I was so pumped about these finds that I wanted to tell everyone what I was buying. There were too many good things to keep to myself. That’s when I decided to create a space to share them—Cut Out Kid was born.

🎤 Live Shows
Occasionally, you’ll see a live show review here too. I try to get out to as many concerts as I can, between work and family life.
I live in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood, and my go-to spot is still Schubas Tavern. That place fits my lifestyle to a “T.” I’ll also venture out to other venues like the legendary Metro and the excellent Lincoln Hall, a more recent favorite. It’s an easier walk to the Riv now, which is okay, but it’s a bit run down here in 2025. The Aragon Ballroom has lost all of its luster from the past and sounds like utter shit. Do hit the Green Mill though for jazz if you’re up in this area; it’s life-changing.

I don’t usually drop cash on the big arena shows. Sure, I’d love to see McCartney, the Stones, or U2, but I’m usually too busy—and too broke. (TV pays nothing, Radio paid less!)
