The cut “Relationships” didn’t make it on to the initial release of the Friendly Fires debut album. It was offered as a bonus download for i-Tunes users only, who actually downloaded the whole album. That was the only way you could get this track for awhile, which is asinine if you think about it. I downloaded Friendly Fires from eMusic, and loved it! So, my curiosity got the best of me, and I went searching to see what else was out there. There were some older EP’s I found, with remixes of the singles, and a few b-sides. But, at the time, “Relationships” was one of the only newer tracks I didn’t have. After waiting awhile, the song became available in the i-Tunes store (to all the rest of us apparent losers) and I finally downloaded it.
This has been going on as long as I can remember, with different tracks only being included on different versions of a single or album. For instance, an import 7″, or CD single, might have an extra track not included on the Cassingle version. But how come i-Tunes users only get certain things!? I think this should stop here in the digital age, since there are no longer different formats. I-Tunes users are no more deserving than other customers who pay for these downloads through a different service. This probably needs to start with the bands and their labels, because they are the ones who could help control this. By doing so, they could insure that their biggest fans continue buying their new records, instead of just going out and downloading a free version, with all of the tracks. Catch my drift?
Either way, this song is a jam. It starts off laid back, but kicks into high gear near the chorus, and never lets up. The chorus has been stuck in my head for days (especially the falsetto part), ever since I started playing the two-disc re-issue version, with all the bonus tracks. LOL! Yes, I pretty much bought every version available. I might not be so obliged to do so next time…
