The world has become a smaller place with the advent of the internet. I’m stating the obvious to segue into my main point. When I was younger I would hear about music through radio, tv, and the local music shop. If there was a band I really liked, and their music was only available by import, then I would have to wait until they released their record stateside. That, or purchase each three song single separately, and pay exorbitant amounts for their full length import from another country. I read a thread about a band called The Naked and the Famous from New Zealand, and went straight to YouTube to see what they sounded like. First I heard “Youngblood,” and instantly liked it. It was eerily similar to Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets,” which is probably what hooked me. “Spank” had this Curve like sound, and “Eyes” had a sound all its own. From that point, I was down…down with the sound of the ‘Naked, that is. I wanted more, and I wanted the album now. But the LP wasn’t out stateside. I don’t even know what import singles existed, to be honest, because that isn’t the route we/I take anymore. Instead of running out to your local record store, if you even have one that is still in business nearby, you take to the cloud, or hit up amazon. That’s exactly what I did. I took to the net and found the whole thing instantly, just like that. Found all of the information too! When the band formed, the onslaught of hype, and when the official US release date is for their debut record “Passive Me, Aggressive You,” March 14th. “March 14!?” “You have to be kidding me,” I said to myself! Oh, they have two songs available for download in the US iTunes store right now, but that’s as far as you’ll get! So I headed over to SoundCloud, and scooped the rest! But they really need to put this album out for download everywhere now, and build the hype for the physical companion later! They are wasting precious time. Our attention spans are short. So get us for the $5 now, which will hook us for the $10 later, when the physical CD drops, and they add bonus tracks. In the meanwhile, I just can’t believe this. Why do the record companies still not get it!? Anyway, check out this band, they are really growing on me…NOW!
