Wild Nothing will not leave me alone. They are haunting my mind. I cannot stop hearing “Chinatown.” I woke up at 3am with that Johnny Marr like riff in my head! Hints of Danny Wilson’s phrasing from “Mary’s Prayer,” loom in the verse. My time has become absorbed with trying to pinpoint every influence. Each influence is worn like a red badge of courage upon their post brit-pop sleeves. Is this some sort of game? It’s starting to feel like one. A conspiracy against the Cut Out Kid? I don’t think so… But since it’s inception, “Gemini,” has been reminiscent of the best pop music from the last 20 years. It feels like a strange coincidence that those moments are all culled from my cut out catalog. (Play Chinatown and read on…) “Live In Dreams” smacks of the Stone Roses, especially the vocals and the guitars. There are Smiths’ like instrumentation and strings on the title cut “Gemini,” and “Drifter” might even hint at a Howard Jones classic from the 80’s; anybody? “The Witching Hour” has a riff ripped straight from the Moz hit “Tomorrow,” and “Bored Games” is so My Bloody Valentine, it could fit seamlessly on their classic LP “Loveless.” This album hooked me late in 2010, but will still be playing throughout the bulk of this year.
