Valerie Loves Me

I produce traffic hits for WGN-TV in Chicago.  That’s Channel 9 here in the second city, if you haven’t left that cave in awhile.  For those in the know, this is the home of everything Chicago Cubs, and anything else vampire related.  Valerie Warner is an anchor here at the station, and she also doubles as the traffic reporter.  Every time I see her face pop up on the screen and hear her name announced, I can’t help but think of the classic Material Issue song, “Valerie Loves Me.” Not a day goes by that I don’t think about that pop gem, and how it should be Val’s theme song.  The song was written over 20 years ago, though it still sounds fresh today.  There is no need to go into the untimely demise of pop star Jim Ellison and what could have been.  What we need to think about is what we have left and how it can be remembered right now.  “International Pop Overthrow,” was a perfect record from start to finish, and the guys built a name on this.  I think it would only be fitting for a Chicago anchor, to use a song written by a Chicago band, as her theme song.  While we are waiting for that to happen, can we please get a remastered edition, that includes everything recorded from those “IPO” sessions.  Maybe throw in a live set as a bonus disc, and a really nice Ryko write up.  And Val…we are waiting.
