Trippy, dippy, and sometimes hippy LA rock band, The Parson Redheads, rolled into Chicago on Saturday night. They graced us with their presence at Schuba’s, which is always the perfect venue to see an upcoming band discovering themselves. A buddy of mine from Fullerton, CA has been telling me about these guys for a while, and ushered me to see them when he found out they were in town. They have a Monkey-esque style and sound, that instantly reminds you of 60’s and 70’s pop rock. Their dress is reminiscent of that era as well, making them nostalgic and indy at the same time. The tunes came packed with catchy harmonies courtesy of lead guitar player Samuel Fowles. Fowles has an amazing voice that stabilizes the vocal melodies, and makes the harmonies in the choruses pop. The rest of the band sang harmony too at times, and should be credited with making the songs sound full and vibrant in this intimate setting. “Out To Sea,” and County Line” are two tunes that really stuck out during the show, with lead singer Evan Way showcasing the good things to come from this band in the future. There was a lot of promise in this performance, and a lot of passion in these songs. They are on small tour right now, so go out and support them if they are in your city.
