Butch and the Black Widows Bring Their Venom

Butch Walker could possibly be the last, true “Rockstar” left…I don’t say that lightly.  The performance Butch and his Black Widows gave at the House of Blues in Chicago, could possibly have been his best!  He was jumping off drum sets again, catching picks in his mouth, and playing every instrument on stage.  He played tunes from all of his records, including some funky cuts from the “Let’s-Go-Out-Tonites” record.  Highlights included crowd favorites “Uncomfortably Numb,” and “Best Thing That You Never Had,” which both had more energy than most bands have in their whole set.  The latter was so intense, you would have thought that he just lost the love of his life last night!  But if you haven’t seen Butch in concert, words can’t describe the scene.  Butch “brings it” live; he holds nothing back!  You get every dime you pay for and you leave wanting more.  His tunes seem overproduced on record, but in his live setting, the energy comes out, and the songs come alive.  Time and time again I have seen this happen, and on this crisp, Sunday night of May, the same circumstances applied.  His piano ballads made us sad, his guitar solos made us scream, and his pop anthems made us sing.  I truly don’t know of another experience like Butch Walker live, but I know that every time I get the chance to see him live, I’m going!
