So I’ve had the last two weekends off. Not off of work per se, but out of the dollar bins. My addiction is getting freakishly crazy and I am falling behind with my listening. I have scored a lot of gems in the last month, especially with Reckless Records bringing back their cut out bins. There are certain CDs that I have previously listed, like Discovery“LP” that have been hogging up time in the five disc changer. Needless to say, I don’t need to be looking for more music as I have a ton of great stuff begging to be ingested. We went to Lake Geneva for the weekend to get away from the Second City, and what do I find? That’s right, you guessed it, dollar CD’s!!! There was something called Maxwell Street Days going on in town, so we got up early to take in their version of sidewalk sales. As I made my way around the streets, I walk right by two men slinging dollar CD’s from a makeshift table, made from a board and two coffe cans. I say “Hi,” and they let me know that if I “buy 4, I get the 5th for free!” You know the ‘Kid by now, and you know how addicted to the beat I am! Hoping that I got a break from the music, my wife is a little shocked and annoyed by this discovery, but she plays along. My first glimpse from this stack of love brought me The Replacements “Don’t Tell A Soul.” What a classic; especially at $1!? You know I’m in! My copy is missing anyway, and it’s been awhile since I’ve heard “Talent Show!” “Come on here we go/Playing at the talent show” What a great tune and the rest of this LP rocks as well! Then I found the soundtrack to “Gross Pointe Blank!” OMG! What a soundtrack, and what a great list of tunes! You’ll have to check the link, there are too many to list now!!!! But one song of note: “Message To You Rudy!” Awesome! If you haven’t heard this track, it is a great chunk of some reggae funk! A classic I first heard on WXRT, here in Chicago, as performed by The Specials when I was a kid. Also, I should note that I scored an import of an early Church LP, that is going for $25.00 used! This Chet Baker is some mind blowing, but very relaxing, Jazz as well. The kind of thing you throw on while getting ready, just before the electro! Take a listen and you will be sold, there is no con going on with this. Anyways, who am I kidding, I knew I was buying four to get my fifth free before I even looked at the stack! The hitlist is numbered below!
.) “Gross Pointe Blank” Soundtrack
.) The Replacements “Don’t Tell A Soul”
.) Chet Baker “Strings”
.) The Church “Of Skins and Heart”
.) Ric Ocasek “Fireball Zone”
