T-Rex “Life’s A Gas”

Yes, well I agree, it is a gas; when your not working that is!  I don’t know why or how this song was in my head this morning, but it was.  I, as well, as many new fans of T-Rex, got wind of them through the great Mozzer, when he covered “Cosmic Dancer” back on one of his 90’s tours.   It was such a great cover that I had to look further into this T-Rex band.  I realized that they were the ones who wrote the song “Get It On (Bang-A-Gong),” which sounded so much better than the Robert Palmer version we all heard as kids on the radio.  It’s a cool song with swagger, but I don’t believe that it’s a good representation of such a great, original band either.  That’s what’s funny about  radio hits in general, a lot of them usually mis-represent the bands they are working for.  But anyway, “Life’s A Gas” is simple and sweet, there is really not much to it.  It’s just a laid back song with a novel thought, and it’s also easy to sing.  It’s sort of relaxing to me, I guess that’s why I like it. If you haven’t heard the song, you can now.  But the reason I like the song is partly do to the incredible LP “Electric Warrior,” which it fit so perfectly on. The album is the perfect length, every song has it’s right place, and it taps all human emotions, from happy to somber.   It’s an experience; as tacky as that sounds.

My favorite song off the “Electric Warrior” LP is the song “Mambo Sun.”  So funky and so groovy, it just rocks!
