“Alright”
A lot of the ‘Kid’s best finds are the random soundtracks that I snag while rummaging through the cut out bins. A few weeks ago on my post entitled “No Rest For The Bin Kid” I listed a purchase of the “Boys” Soundtrack, which contained a great song list. When I threw it on, I made an astounding discovery, as I heard a song from my teenage years cranking through the speakers! I had never acquired this song in any format, except for a live cassette copy, which I recorded off the WXRT’s Sunday Night Concert. This concert was recorded from the Cabaret Metro and was of a little known band (at the time) called “The La’s.” We had seen this show about 6 months before it aired on XRT, and I waited tirelessly to hear it again, as I loved the song and could not find a recorded version of it anywhere! Apparently, this song was not on any single, EP, or LP, and after hunting for this tune for years, I realized that it was never actually even recorded. That is until now! I remember knowing that the La’s broke up, and that John Powers (bass player and singer for The La’s) started a new band called Cast, but I didn’t know he would eventually re-record this song under his new moniker! Awesome, how frickin’ cool was that when I pressed play on this soundtrack and heard a newer version of that old La’s song come on the stereo. I was enthralled to hear it! I couldn’t believe that I actually had a copy of this to play endlessly, in my hands! Awesome, and equally worth every dollar I have ever spent on music from the cut out bins! The video is posted above, and if I ever get a CD copy of that live La’s show, I will update this post with that old school live version! But for now, no more trying to figure out the lyrics to a song that has only been playing in my head.
