It’s apparent these days that John Mayer has a way with the ladies, but one thing we musn’t forget is his way with the guitar. His little touches and flourishes on this live version of the Michael Jackson classic “Human Nature,” show just why he is such a big star and an amazing talent. I wondered why he was even chosen for the Michael Jackson Memorial, and if he even wanted to be there. But one viewing of this video leaves you feeling good, and with all the answers you might need to such questions. It’s not like he’s shredding, but actually the reverse, adding little nuances to the notes, and putting sheer heart and soul into this song that many of us know and love. What he’s doing here is something that has never really been done with this song, maybe something even new. A different approach, one that is more subtle, possibly making it even prettier than it was, though some of you are saying “that really isn’t possible.” What it does do, is make you think about what it would have sounded like, had John and Michael performed this song together. It just evokes all of the feelings that Michael was previously briging to this song, while giving us a taste of what this dynamic duo might have sounded like, and could have created, if they had more time. It’s sad that this combo can never really happen live, or even on a recording, now that Michael has passed. So enjoy it, this is the closest that we will get.
