A band called “Windmill”

So while I was hunting for new bands on the cheap a few weeks ago I discovered this little gem, a band called Windmill.  Many times I will buy a CD from the cut out bin that looks cool, comes in a slick package, or has great artwork.  Also, if I know the producers name, or if  have heard of any of the band members, that’s another cue I use to purchase.  Windmill was one of those bands I found that I really liked , even though the lead singers voice was really strange.  I love the urgency that he brings to his music and the female vocal is an added bonus that makes the lead more listenable.  “Puddle City Racing Lights” was a 2007 release and probably the reason why I scored it for a buck.  That coupled with the fact that they have almost gone unnoticed here in the US, all the while garnering major praise in the UK.  Either way, the more I hear it, the better it gets, especially this single “Tokyo Moon.”  Here they are live with my favorite single off “Puddle City…”

Windmill made a bold entrance into the live music scene in 2007, sharing billings with The National, Patrick Watson, The Smashing Pumpkins, Vampire Weekend and touring with Annie Clark’s St. Vincent.  Their new LP “Epcot Starfields” is set to be released in 2009, and the sound remains in the same vein as “Puddy City Racing Lights.”  I will admit the vocals take a little bit of getting used to, but the emotional lifts of the music should be enough to keep you hooked.
